Bena Lulua helmet mask
Scarifications in African art Luluwa
African helmet mask decorated with many linear patterns corresponding to the ritual scarifications of the Bena Lulua famous for their figurines scarified in the same way. The artistic corpus of ethnic group is very famous and represented by some major pieces at the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Brussels. This traditional helmet was carved with the effigy of a dignitary.
This piece comes from the collection of Mr. Mongu of which our gallery offers several pieces for sale. Mr. Mongu has traveled the remote villages of the Democratic Republic of the Congo on numerous occasions in search of unique and authentic pieces during his travels.
