The Mbole people is a very hierarchical society, the socio-cultural organization is omnipresent, among other things it organizes initiation rites, governs relations and punishes transgressions. This masks comes from a subgroup of the Mbole : Yela people.
These circular ekanga masks are kept in a special basket in the meeting lodge of the very secret ekanga society.
