Ndaaka mask
Wooden ovoid mask pierced with gaping eyes slightly offset and an aggressive toothed mouth. The patina shows residues of white spots characteristic of the masks of the forests of the northeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This mask collected in Goma in the 1980s probably comes originally from the Ndaaka. The masks of this region are generally linked to the ritual of circumcision of young boys. These rites sometimes extend over several days according to a very codified course.
