Kulango mask of Do

African art and Islam in Ivory Coast

This African wooden mask participated in Dô dances supervised by the Koulango and Ligbi, Muslim populations. It is a closing festivity of Ramadan. One always observes on these masks lateral growths corresponding to jewels, as well as horns representing the antelope or the buffalo.
