Baoule Ndoma mask
Naturalism and African art
Ex Belgian african art collector, François-Charles, L. Bazelaire.
This African ndoma mask was sculpted by a Baoulé artist in Ivory Coast. He danced on the occasion of "merit festivals", funerals, to commemorate ancestors but most often to honor distinguished visitors. Traditional Baoulé masks (with the exception of the Kplé Kplé) do not have pierced eyes and describe a variety of remarkably elaborate hairstyles.
Support is included. This piece comes from the F. C. Bazelaire collection, Belgian painter and sculptor who died in 2021 and owner of a very important collection of African art.
