Suku Kakungu mask
This remarkable traditional mask of African art Suku is linked to the Makunda initiation.
These masks, called kakungu, represent the founding ancestors. They were to inspire fear of authority and ancestors among young initiates.
We recognize the kakungu (or kakuungu) type mask by its elongated and chubby face.
This mask intervened during the rites linked to the passage of boys to adulthood ending with circumcision.
