Pende Munyangi mask

This small African mask from the Eastern Pende with long ears was worn during festivities at the end of initiation and in the agrarian rites celebrated during the sowing of millet.

This is a Munyangi tribal mask. The two appendages symbolize knives, the chief's weapons.

Beautiful well-preserved polychromy.
