Eket Ekpo mask

This African Eket mask came out on the occasion of the rites of the Ekpo mask society which is also known among the Ibibio, in Nigeria.

During these dances, the bearers were flanked by different masks representing key characters in the village: chief, ritual expert of the village,...

We find on this mask a wide and toothed mouth. The face is whitened, the features blackened. Elements common to Idoma and Igbo as well.
