Songye Kifwebe mask
Kifwebe originating from the Songye people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This type of mask emerged from the choreography of the Bwadi bwa Kifwebe, a influential societal organization among the Songye. Their masks are recognizable by their large bulging eyes, prominent rectangular mouth, and striped colors.
This mask features a highly imposing naso-frontal crest, indicating that it is a "kilume" Kifwebe, a masculine mask. Additionally, the height of this crest served as a symbol of high social status.
