Nyamwezi mask
African masks from Tanzania are undoubtedly among the least studied objects of tribal art. Although it is not easy to differentiate the masks of certain ethnic groups, the role of these masks is also poorly understood.
This Nyamwezi mask is very similar to a known example in the T. Levine collection, USA with its rounded shape, its close-set circular eyes and its small open mouth. Facial scarifications are also similar.
