Songye Kifwebe mask
African mask of Luba or Songye origin with a perfectly balanced face. The mysterious face imposes a real presence as seen in the photos. Take the time to look at it in front and observe it.
The extruded mouth is placed in the same plane as the nose, seen in profile.
The shape of the face stretches into a harmonious "S".
Perforations around the perimeter made it possible to attach a rope headdress that was regularly replaced.
This traditional kifwebe mask is a feminine "kikashi" given the absence of a developed naso-frontal crest.
Traces of wearing on the inner face.
The chevron striations are fine and well made, testifying to great sculptural mastery.
If we refer to the expertise of François Neyt, this mask would come from the Eastern Songye.
