Luba Kifwebe Mask
African mask from the Luba. This is a perfect example of an authentic and old kifwebe mask of good quality. This traditional mask linked to the bwadi bwa kifwebe is of the masculine type, lacking a naso-frontal ridge.
In very good condition, it still has its original braided headdress at the back and presents a beautiful contrast of black and white pigments.
This mask belonged to the Soubry family collection, certain pieces of which were successfully distributed.
This important collection was built up over three generations and was the subject of a catalogue, see attached images.
A Songye statue from the collection was recently sold in the United States well above its estimate, cf. attached image.
