Suruku mask fof Koré Bambara - SOLD OUT
The masks of Koré in traditional African art
In traditional Bambara culture, there are six initiatory societies of great importance. They teach understanding of everything about the nature and destiny of the human being.
The Koré society is the ultimate one, one that is only accessible after a long apprenticeship that aims to rid the wanzo impurity. Korah itself includes eight classes of insiders symbolically linked to social categories, each with its own emblem. Traditional Bambara artifacts are strongly related to agrarian rites. This authentic mask has been esteemed by the independent experts of the Catawiki auction room.
