Mahongwe mask
The Mahongwé, an ethnic group close to the Bakota, are best known for their copper wire reliquaries.
Magnificent mask composed of prominent elements, evidenced by the eyes, the nose with disproportionate proportions. The eyes drawn in a stretched way as well as in almond shapes, directs us towards a close ethnic group, the Kwélé.
Composed of a very nice patina of wear, this mask will delight collectors of African art and more particularly those of Gabon.
