Senoufo Kpeliye mask

African Kpeliye mask. It is one of the most representative of African Senoufo art. It is recognized by its multiple appendages on the perimeter, its high stylization and its classic prognathic mouth. The periphery of the mask is here decorated with cowries and the top is surmounted by a bird's head. It is a kalao, a totemic bird often encountered.
Senoufo masks of this type are subdivided into several categories according to their use which is determined by the adjoining headdress.
