Chokwe Mwana Pwo mask - SOLD OUT

African mask representing a young woman with aesthetic features. There are remarkable finely carved scarifications. Among these, the famous traditional cross on the forehead. Under the eyes, patterns illustrate tears. The mouth, for its part, is surprisingly realistic and reveals pointed teeth, very popular at the beginning of the 20th century in Congo and Angola. The reddish patina was obtained through the application of red pigment called tukula.

This African female Chokwe mask was worn by men. It illustrates the beautiful young girl "Mwana Pwo" who leaves her family to live with her husband. It is the female counterpart of another mask: the Ci Hongo. The quality of the sculpture, the indisputable age and the numerous portages of this mask make it an essential piece for any collector looking for a fine, rare and unique masterpiece.

Ce masque sera fourni avec un document de provenance.
