

Very rare traditional African neckrest of Twa origin (pl. Batwa).
This specific typology is easily recognizable: a low curved seat rests at its ends on two half-figures with their backs turned, faces outward.
While there are many headrests in African art from various countries and ethnic groups, those of the Batwa are quite anecdotal.
Only a few rare examples are listed, including one in the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Brussels cf. attached photo.
