Maternity figure - Luba - Congo - SOLD

Maternity clinics in African Luba art

Still very beautiful, the tribal maternities Baluba remain amazing because unlike the mother themes / Western children in which a relationship seems established between the mother and her child, in the case of maternity Luba, the two characters seem "dissociated".

No glance of the mother on her child, no filial gesture. Thus, this theme of mother and child is translated, not by an affective relationship, but a generic principle of fertility and fertility. Such statues are assimilated to the domains of the sacred and the religious and will find their place on an altar.
