The fetish in traditional African art

Botchio African fetishes can be used for beneficial or evil purposes. This statue has a thick patina of use consisting of libations, feathers, pieces of wood and fabric. The Fon are famous for the making of fetishes at the worrying pace with complex patinas.

Sometimes, they can also be in the form of poles or bowls. The word Botchio or Bocio designating an ancient religious manifestation, is composed of "bo", power, and "cio" meaning cadaver.
