Asen Portable Altar Fon - SOLD OUT
Ancestor worship in traditional African art
In African art, the Asen are linked to ancestor worship among the Fon, Benin.
At the top of a stem, we always observe an inverted cone-shaped structure surmounted by a plateau on which different characters or zoomorphic representations are present. Here, we observe chameleons, totemic animals in African cosmogonies. Small pendants are attached around the edge of the tray. The asen was planted in the ground during the ceremony.
