Bamana stool

This ancient African seat comes from Mali, presumably from the Bamana (Bambara). We find there one of the favorite themes of the traditional sculptors of this region, namely, the equestrian figure.

Riders and horses are among the most popular objects in Bamana tribal art.
The horse represents the high dignity of its owner. Note the high stylization of this animal figure, as well as the very fine work of geometric patterns carved on the seat.
