Kuba royal cup - SOLD OUT
The most famous cuts are anthropomorphic, the face is treated as in royal statuary or on masks. The eyes are half closed like a coffee bean, the nasal bridge well defined and a fleshy mouth. The stylized hairstyle is finely sculpted, Kuba sculptors hate emptiness, so this pushes the artist to fully cover the surface, but all with great harmony and mastery.
On this cup we see traces of use, at the level of the patina as well as inside the container intended to receive palm wine. In view of the shapes of this statue, there is a great Kuba artist behind this achievement. This object dates from before the mid-twentieth century, we received it following a family inheritance.
