The African art of Bénoué
The use of the piece I am presenting to you here is not clearly identified; it could be a stick or scepter with a symbolic aim or rather a fragment of pestle. The upper part has a typical Mumue head with large circular ears corresponding to the trays worn in the pavilions by the Mumuye individuals as seen in the attached period photo.
African art Mumuye is undoubtedly one of the most appreciated of Bénoué for its naive and remarkably cubist approach at the same time. This piece will be sold to you on its own base.
