Dan Wakemia spoon
African traditional trophy
African spoon whose handle is surmounted by a typical Dan head, an ethnic group from Côte d'Ivoire. This large spoon was awarded to the most deserving woman in the village. Famous in traditional art, these anthropomorphic spoons are named Wakemia or Wunkirmian.
The face on the spoon is also strongly reminiscent of the Dan masks with slit eyes, the median ridge, the domed forehead and the protruding nose and mouth.
