Ancient African knife of Mongo origin, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The symmetrical blade is topped with a narrow handle set with a brass wire, itself accompanied by a fetish leather pommel.
On certain examples of short swords from Africa, we find this practice of accompanying the handle of a traditional knife with a fetish charge.
In the attached photo taken at the beginning of the 20th century, Mongo warriors carry their shields and knives.
