Akan figurative gold weight - SOLD OUT
African figurine visibly representing an antelope. This coin comes from Ghana, more specifically the Akan, an ethnic group known historically to have been enriched by trade with Europeans as early as the 17th century. African bronze statuettes like this one also served as a weight to weigh gold, an ore that was exchanged, among other things, for pearls from Europe, which Akan dignitaries loved.
