Luba dignitary figure - SOLD OUT

We find in traditional African art Luba effigies of very variable sizes with the image of women. The dignitaries had statues carved to celebrate the woman in Luba society. Here, a very nice size piece, 74 centimeters high, representing a standing woman with a headdress pulled back. We see jewelry carved around the neck, also testifying to the high status of this woman in society.

The objects held in the hands are generally regalia, also testifying to the privileged statue of the person whose figure is the effigy.

Luba statue brought back in the 1960s by a Belgian settler who worked in Kinshasa.
