Ashanti Akua'ba doll - SOLD OUT
The theme of fertility is very widespread in the primitive arts, especially in Africa. The sculptors of Ghana have always worn it through a wooden "doll". The Ashanti have remarkable figurines with cylindrical bodies but especially with circular flat heads. This large, highly stylized face has fine features.
The patina is here, black and smooth. The neck is ringed and wears a small pearl necklace.
These pieces were worn by women at the waist to promote their ability to give birth.
