Zela fetish figure

€370.00

This African half-figure comes from the Luba-Tabwa cultural complex in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. She is probably of Zela origin, close to the Rungu).

Miniature statuette, the body is archaic. The head, with a small centered face, has a striated hairstyle. It is especially the top of the figurine which is interesting: we see a cavity there which was obviously used to place a magical charge. The statuette was desecrated after use. This type of fetish was used in particular for individual protection against illness and curses.

It was collected by its first owner in the 1940s not far from Lake Tanganyika.
