Songye Nkishi figure - SOLD OUT
Very old statue of power "Nkishi" from Songye country. The head is carried forward and on a scale greater than that of the body. The expression is of phenomenal power. The open mouth illustrates the power of the word emitted by the "fetish" which ward off misfortune and bad spells.
The cubist-looking piece seems to boast its plump abdomen to the viewer by placing the hands on the side faces. The neck is ringed and the face is decorated with very old metal nails which contribute to the magical power of the statue, just like the skin cape.
This African statue originally comes from a provincial museum in the United States before being entrusted to us by a collector.
