There are many different types of masks in Dan African art. They nevertheless have some common characteristics according to the types and their sub-regions. Ovoid in shape, the face is flat, only the slippery mouth and nose stand out. The front generally overhangs the whole. Here, the small braided rope headdress is still present.
The eyes can be treated in different ways, coffee beans, circular and gaping, or simple slits like on this coin. The almost black patina is recurrent and obtained by the application of decoctions and oil.
These Deangle masks known as "racing" entered the scene during theatrical races between villages and between clans.
