Songye Kifwebe Kilume mask - SOLD OUT
African mask with well-known shapes: it is a mask from Bwadi bwa Kifwebe, Songye social organization. It is also found among the Luba and the Kalebwe, also sculpting "Kifwebe" masks but with different shapes although there are constants such as the striations, the crest, the treatment of the mouth etc.
The one presented here is a male mask in view of its high sagittal crest. The mouth is protruding and pierced in the shape of a cross. Very good state of conservation. Piece collected in south-eastern Congo. Streaks have religious significance related to the world of the dead and communication with spirits.
