Dan Deangle mask
African mask Dan Guéré : From ancestors to entertainment
The Dan mask is characterised by realistic and humanised forms in a spirit of idealism. The criteria are simple, a high and rounded forehead, a naturalistic, fine, faithful and expressive mouth, considered as an aristocratic indicator that is often observed among the Dan. The masks are designed in a ritualistic, purely classical spirit. The sculptor likes to accentuate or hypertrophy the element that he considers the most atypical, often the forehead, the eyes, the cheekbones or the mouth. The whole is presented as a plastic or architectural construction, in which the parts are added together, thus producing a powerful effect through a strong opposition of light and shadow.
