Chokwe Mwana Pwo mask
Feminine beauty in the traditional art of Africa
There are several types of masks in African Chokwe art, some of which are zoomorphic and others anthropomorphic. This one depicts the face of an attractive young Mwana pwo woman. This traditional African mask was worn by a male dancer who also wore a rope costume. Chokwe mwana pwo masks should always be aesthetic in order to best illustrate feminine beauty.
This one has beautiful scarifications including the chingelyengelye cross on the forehead.
