Pende Mbuya mask - Sold Out
This is a Mbuya mask from the Pende people, identifiable by its heavy eyelids, continuous eyebrow line, bulging forehead, and flat, upturned nose. Mbuya masks portray the diversity of characters among the villagers. Each mask had its associated dance and specifically represented a villager: the chief, the diviner, the healer, the prostitute, and so on.
This mask was part of the collection of Jean-Marc Desaive, Belgian merchant collector (1960-2023).
