Pende Mbangu mask
€250.00
Inspiration for numerous Western artists, particularly the Cubists, this double-faced mask, called Mbangu, depicts the physical and/or moral deformities of an individual through its dichromatism and grotesque features.
Originating from the Pende culture, an ethnic group in the Democratic Republic of Congo, it satirized the mentally disturbed, epileptics, as well as cantankerous individuals during festivities.
