Cihongo Tschokwe mask

Chokwe dances in African art

Ci Hongo or Cihongo African mask among the Chokwe. These are established in the North of Angola, the southern confines of the DR Congo and some regions of Zambia. This traditional mask is the male counterpart of the famous Mwana Pwo masks depicting the beautiful young woman. The Ci Hongo is distinguished by its large feather headdress and its semi-circular chin. Our African art gallery also offers many Chokwe Pwo masks as well as Luena.
