Luluwa Headrest - SOLD OUT

Art and surrealism among the Luluwa

This prestigious neck-rest comes from between the Kasai and Sankuru rivers, South of Congo. Its rare and specific style makes it an exceptional neck rest. The body of the standing figure is slightly leaning forward and supports an impressive seat extending backwards, a true feat of mastery of form. The face of this neck rest is not neglected. The face is small, with a large rounded forehead, the eyes are edged with the border of the eyelids, a decoration of lines accentuates the finesse of the work. This art denotes a tendency, not only to refinement but to surrealism.

In applied art, the Luluwa know how to stand out, on this example the main stylistic characteristic are the imposing feet, we find this precise characteristic on an example of the inventory of the museum of Tervuren, Africa Museum, MRAC.
