Singiti ancestor figure - Hemba - Congo - SOLD

Hemba art is coming from areas that were forbidden for a long time. It remained unknown from european collector until its triumphal arrival in the early 1970's. The hemba artistic corpus is wonderful. Ancestor figures, also called Singiti, have become emblematic pieces from the traditional african art. In the hemba culture, ancestors cult overwhelms everything else in the society and this can be felt in their style. Carvers were often gathered in workshops to create the ancestor figures. This one is very nice and in a good condition. The patina is nice too.Origin : private collection, BelgiumDating : 1950'sSize : 41 x 11 cmMaterial : wood
