Mangbetu recade

The Mangbetu are famous in African art for their statues which are a royal art. They are also renowned for their royal palaces designed by exceptional architects to whom other ethnic groups appealed. They are also known for recessions or axes of power like this one. It recognizes the elongated skull specific to their tradition of lengthening the children's head using cord for aesthetic reasons. Very old piece.
