Ancestral Kongo figure - SOLD OUT
This Kongo statue is the representation of a clan founder. The mother is represented kneeling on a turtle which is a symbolic animal in the same way as the dog, the snake or the lizard which is also represented on the top of the headdress with fine geometric designs. Statuettes which do not have additions, magical substances or mirrors are often figurations of ancestors, women can occupy a position of chief in matrilineal clans.
