Lega anthropo-zoomorphic Figure

Art and beauty at the Lega

The design of the objects produced by the Lega are derived from their worldview and are largely inspired by the natural environment and the animal world. Some rituals require particular species of hunted animals to be presented in a certain way. In this case we find a major category of wooden animal figurines carved by Lega artists. Lega zoomorphic sculptures include stylized quadrupeds and birds. The figurine here is probably the Kwangwakwa bird, a symbol of a talkative person.
