Nzakara figure

The traditional statuary of North Congo

This large wooden statue with undeniable sculptural qualities is slender, with short arms well separated on the body, the long trunk resting on short legs. The head has soft shapes, a well-marked nasal bridge, small eyes and a ridged cap.

African Nzakara statues differ little from those of the Zande. If some pieces are part of the Yanda-Mani company, we do not know the exact role of the figures that are not linked to it. They could be the evocation of spirits.
