Lega Iginga figurine of Bwami - SOLD OUT
Figurine of traditional African art highly stylized related to the initiation of the members of the Bwami, the organization that governs the social and moral order among the Lega Congo DRC.
Superb piece of tribal art through which one feels the high sculptural mastery of Lega artists. This type of figurine was owned by a high member of the Bwami and was used to inculcate moral values through aphorisms.
Beautiful patina and details.
Lega statuette may be in the same hand as the one carved by the artist, of which a piece with a very similar style is exhibited at the Fowler Museum under reference X2004.17.21 (formerly J. J. Klejman, NY)
