Dan Deangle mask
Dan: gle in African art
In the African art of Ivory Coast, one finds a wide variety of masks among the Dan. These traditional masks have common elements even if they come from different territories of the Dan country or have different roles. They can be recognized by their rounded forehead, their generally dark and smooth patina, their protruding mouth and nose. This deangle mask took part in inter-village races and theatrical competitions.
The term "gle" refers to masks in the Dan language.
