OviMbundu hairpin
Hairstyles: an art form in Africa
Wooden hairpin of Ovimbundu origin, important ethnic group of Angola. In African art, this type of object is found in many groups with stylistic specificities. These pins were used to maintain the sometimes complex hairstyles. Traditional combs could also be used in this way. The pin present here is surmounted by a head with a long headdress and has a feminine body with generous curves.
