Lulua mask
Body expression of African art
Bena Lulua African masks are rare, especially when they are remarkably well sculpted, as is the case with the one I am offering here. The very well-preserved face is superbly decorated with ritual scarifications that can also be found on the statuary of this ethnic group from the south of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This copy is a kind of hand mask because it has a handle in the extension of the chin, allowing the dancer to wear it next to him or in front of his face.
