Ngbaka Zande figure
The artistic conceptions of the Azande and close groups (Ngbaka, Ngbandi,...) are quite unique in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The figures from the north of the country, in Ubangi are often highly stylized like the original Ngbaka example that we offer here.
We observe a very simplified body, with geometric shapes, accompanied by ritual accessories including earrings and a belly magic charge.
After use in the context of Mani initiation rites, these statuettes were normally thrown away or even broken.
