Mwana Pwo Tschokwe mask - SOLD OUT

African Chokwe mask from Angola. Feminine mask worn by men who imitate the attractive young woman with sweet dances.
The face is aesthetic. Many scarifications are visible and have a very precise meaning like the cross of Saint Andrew "chingelyengelye" so named by the Chokwe.
Dark patina, beautiful cord headdress as it should be. Teeth inlaid with white are highlighted. Among the Chokwe and other ethnic groups in the region, teeth were pruned in order to make them sharp for aesthetic purposes.
