Nkishi figure - Kongo - Congo DRC - SOLD OUT

Fetish statues in African art in Congo

This figure has retained the receptacle of magic ingredients placed on its belly, more or less square shape, and a string around the neck. The concentric circle hairstyle is in keeping with the fashion of the time.

The sculptor cared for detail by taking care of detailing the teeth and embedding pieces of glass in the eyes to breathe life into the living room. The patina is smooth except for the load which is crusty.

If most minkisi (sing nkisi) do not have sex, we can determine here that it is a man.

The posture is classic and typologically correct, a character standing on a small promontory, the body leaning slightly forward. The wood is visibly old and wears.

Minksi statues of this quality are not frequent. This authentic tribal statuette has been sold by our gallery. Contact us for other Nkisi figures we have available.
